James Buchanan Barnes, or Bucky to his friends, my comfort character, the one person who can calm me down, does not exist, or at least that's what I thought until yesterday.
Let me take you back to yesterday morning, the day I really needed help.
It was a particularly sunny day, my morning was going great, then I got into a fight with my parents. It was over something so trivial and stupid, I don't even remember what it was.
I stormed out of the house, angry with my parents. Their words really got to me. They said, “We would be better off without you, just disappear already”. Can you believe it? My own parents, my friends wouldn’t pick up the phone, so I went to the roof of the tallest building in New York City.
I stood at the ledge for a moment before stepping off, and for a moment, a split second, when I was falling I felt a wave of tranquility rush over me. That was until I fell through an orange portal.
I crashed into the floor and the impact knocked me out. When I came to a couple hours later I saw a familiar face. It was Stephen Strange.
As I sat up he looked over at me. “Morning Kid” He was drinking something. It looked like coffee.
“Where am I? I’m not a kid, I'm 27” I stated, looking around.
“My house. Forgive me, I haven’t introduced myself. I am Stephen Strange, more known as Doctor Strange” He put his hand out for me to shake it.
“I’m y/n, more known as a disappointment to my parents” I said, tears falling down my face as I shook his hand.
“Y/n is it? I understand you're not from this dimension. You’re not like the rest of us are you?” He asked with his hands clasped in his lap.
“Afraid not Mister Strange. I don’t have any powers like everyone here” As I spoke things levitated around me, and I myself floated in the air.
“Well, it seems you do have powers.” Strange said with a perplexed look.
We kept talking for a few hours. I trailed behind him all day, learning of this world. Then he hit me with the 2 most important questions.
“Why are you here and Do you want to go home?” He asked in a calming voice.
“I’m here because I need help, I’m searching for someone I’m not even sure exists.” I stated in a dull tone
“Do you wish to go home?” He poured a cup of tea.
“No, I don’t. I want to stay” I chuckled, thinking of how much better off my family would be
“Why? Don’t you like living with your friends and family?”
“I could lie and say I do, but I don't it hurts, more than you could ever imagine.” I sighed sadly, and sat down in a chair.
“Well, that's fair.” He smiled as he handed me a cup of tea. “Tell you what. I'll help you find this person you're looking for”
“Really?! You will?” I said, with clear excitement in my voice.
“Mhm. Why not? I’ve nothing to do anyways.” He sipped his tea.
“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” I jumped up giving him a hug
“Whoa there Kid. Careful.” He chuckled as he set his cup down, and hugged me back. “Now let's get you some fresh clothes. I’m sure I have something that’ll fit.”
“Ok” I trailed behind him as he walked to his bedroom
“Hmmmm. Ah ha! Here we are. It might be a bit big but here’s some Pj’s and in the morning we can go shopping for you.”
“Ok.” I went to the guest room and changed.
“Are you done changing?” Strange asked as he knocked on the door
“Just a second!” I called before opening the door “Yep, all finished”
“Good. Well I'm off to bed. Good night.” He began to walk away
“W-wait!” I said as I grabbed his sleeve.
“Yes?” He asked
“I just wanted to say thank you, for everything Mister Strange. I'm really grateful you're helping me”
“No problem kid” He smiled as he walked away.
I climbed into bed and drifted into a deep dreamless sleep.
